Market Traders Groups In The Implementation Of Health Protocols

In Denpasar City, there are 51 markets, 35 of which are managed by the Denpasar City Community Empowerment Agency (BPM) and 16 others are managed by the Denpasar City PD Pasar. Village markets or traditional markets are not only places for buying and selling, but also places for people to interact. Bargaining and greetings are characteristics of traditional markets that are not found in modern markets. Empowering traditional markets is an effort to empower the economy of grassroots communities.

Traditional markets are markets that contribute to economic growth in Indonesia. The increase in the number of Covid cases is accompanied by the emergence of new clusters. One of them is in Denpasar City, where two new clusters have emerged related to the spread of the Covid-19 virus outbreak. Many new clusters have emerged in Denpasar City, most of which are family clusters and there are traditional market clusters. Currently, most Covid-19 cases are caused by local transmission. Several traditional markets in Indonesia have become new clusters for the spread of the corona virus, after hundreds of traders in several areas, such as Padang, Palangkaraya and Jakarta, were infected with the corona virus. The Indonesian Traditional Market Traders Association (IKAPPI) recorded that 573 traders were infected with Covid-19.

At least 32 of them died. In Indonesia, there are around 14,000 traditional markets in total. Traditional markets have great potential to become clusters for the spread of the corona virus because the contact rate at that location is very high. 6 Previously, several areas that also conducted massive Corona virus tests in traditional markets found traders exposed to COVID-19. Traditional markets are indeed quite vulnerable places in relation to the potential spread of the Corona virus. The partner group in this case, market traders, is helpless in this situation.

They become apathetic and don't care, even though they actually have the desire to help the government in breaking the chain of Covid-19 transmission, increasing sales turnover as a potential source of family welfare. The phenomena that emerge tend to be caused by 1) lack of facilities and guidance; 2) lack of knowledge about the implementation of health protocols. The implementation of this community service began with the identification of problems that occurred at the Yadnya Market, coordination was carried out with the Market Head and traders. The means of counseling used were presentations with leaflets and posters. Counseling will be carried out by Dr. Putu Indah Budiapsari, M.Si about Covid-19 including an explanation of the characteristics of the virus, how it is transmitted, how to use PPE given to traders. Training on proper hand washing techniques will be carried out by Dr. Wayan Widhidewi, M. Biomed. Before and after the counseling, the speaker gave several questions (pretest and posttest) which aimed to assess the level of participants' understanding of the material provided. The training was provided by the resource person, Dr. Putu Indah Budiapsari, M.Si and was attended by 23 participants. The method of providing material was carried out like a lecture method, several demonstrations on proper hand washing techniques and how to use personal protective equipment to work in the field, and continued with a discussion or question and answer session.
