The Role of the Community in Managing Source-Based Waste in Kesiman Kertalangu Village

2023-06-12 - Denpasar - In an effort to overcome the increasingly worrying waste problem, a new initiative has been launched in Kesiman Kertalangu Village by the PKM team of Warmadewa University led by Ir. I Wayan Muliawan, MT Through a socialization program for making soap from ecoenzymes which aims to educate the public about source-based waste processing.

In a socialization event held at the local community center, dozens of residents from various levels of society gathered to learn the concept and benefits of ecoenzymes in waste management.

Ecoenzyme, which is a mixture of natural microorganisms, can convert organic waste into useful materials such as compost fertilizer that is rich in nutrients for plants, hand sanitizer and washing soap.

During the socialization, participants were also introduced to practical steps for processing waste using ecoenzymes.

In a live demonstration, they learned how to make an ecoenzyme solution by mixing it with water and letting it ferment for a few days. This solution can then be used to speed up the decomposition of organic waste, both in solid and liquid form.

In addition, participants were also taught about the use of ecoenzymes in waste management at the community level. They were given information on how to establish and manage a waste bank in their environment, where ecoenzymes can be used to speed up the composting process of organic waste and produce valuable compost fertilizer.

In an atmosphere of enthusiasm, the residents who attended realized the great potential that ecoenzyme has in changing their mindset about waste. They began to see waste as a valuable resource and no longer as a problem to be avoided.

Many participants committed to implementing the use of ecoenzymes in their homes and inviting their neighbors to participate in sustainable waste management.

Through this socialization, environmental awareness in the community is increasing. Ecoenzyme is an attractive and effective alternative in source-based waste processing, reducing the negative impact of waste on the environment and encouraging more environmentally friendly behavioral changes. It is hoped that this socialization program will be a good start to realizing a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city.
